Bucket Lists: Not just a “To Do” List

More and more, people are becoming familiar with the term “buck list.” For those who don’t, a bucket list is a list of things that you would like to do before you die, or before you “kick the bucket.” Here’s a list of popular things people put on their bucket list:

• Skydiving
• Run a marathon
• Travel to Europe
• Climb a mountain
• Start a business
• Fall in Love

While the above is not a comprehensive list, it’s certainly some of the more popular goals people have in life. Often however, a bucket list can be more than aspirations that you may or may not achieve. Rather, why aren’t these things being accomplished now? Money? Make money. Time? Make time. The bucket list may reveal some truly hidden desires whose accomplishment is stopped only by you!

The bucket list can help you take stock on your present life by looking into why you haven’t accomplished these things. Perhaps they’re not being accomplished because you’re working too hard. When something such as “spending more time with family” is on your bucket list, which can be very eye-opening. Remember, your bucket list comprises not only of things that will make you happy when you are dead, but also when you are alive!

Take skydiving, instance. Skydiving is fun and entertaining hobby for thousands of people for many years. However, think to yourself what’s stopping you. If it’s money or time, that’s covered. If it’s fear, then what could be a more perfect way to conquer fear than with a death-defying (yet perfectly safe!) recreational activity like skydiving? The point is, don’t just make the bucket list and throw it away, or tuck it away when you’re old and gray! Take charge of it, and see how it reflects on your life now. You might find that with your head in the skies, you might see where your feet are taking you just a little better.

Three Tips to Stay Safe Outdoors

No matter what the season, it’s a great time to be outdoors! But remember, the outdoors may be your friend, but it’s still wise to be safe out there! Here are a few tips to ensure many safe returns!

1. Always be Prepared for Weather
Whether it’s sunscreen or a winterized tent, make sure that you are prepared for the season’s worst! When hiking, a beautiful day can turn into the biggest storm of your life in a matter of minutes. Be sure to always be prepared with shelter. Alternatively, know your surroundings and have a strategy should the weather turn on you and your plans!

2. Always listen to your Instructor
If you are smart enough to get a guide or instructor before a big day out, be smart enough to take their advice. They have years of experience with the terrain or activity that you are only experiencing for the first time! Take their advice and be respectful. Also, if you are trying something new, then of course get instruction! Rock climbing, skydiving, and other activities necessitate training, and rightfully so! Take in what your instructor has to say and you’ll have the best experience of your life!

3. Always be Protected
Are you going camping for the first time? Never gone kayaking before? Talk to your friends and family who have been before. Use their knowledge to help you through these awkward firsts. Most importantly, find out what they needed to keep themselves safe. Did you know you may need a helmet to kayak? Check the Internet and other resources for everything that you need. Then, make a checklist! After all, your safety requires you to be as thorough as possible.

There you have it! The final tip? Don’t forget to always have fun!

Three Tips to Get Back in the Game

Joining a soccer league this summer? Or are you just trying to lose some pounds for summer? Here’s a few obvious tips that maybe you didn’t think about so that you can speed your way to your goals:

1. Make Goals
Making goals is the only way you can achieve them. Be sure to make them finite, something that can be achieved in a short amount of time. Also, make it something concrete. Don’t just say “I want a better body” but “I want to lose four pounds.” Finally, be sure to be realistic. Wanting to lose four pounds in a month is reasonable. Four pounds a day is most likely going to be unachievable and potentially dangerous.

2. Prepare Meals
Limit eating out. Don’t just get healthy alternatives at the fast food restaurant. Don’t go to the fast food restaurant. First of all, the temptation to order the burger instead of the salad is too great for most people. Second, even the healthy options are healthy in comparison. The portions sizes are still very large and unnecessary. In the long run, it is better to plan your own meals and stick to a diet uninterrupted by fast food restaurants. Do research and plan meals ahead of time. Prepare snacks that are healthy and portion controlled.

3. Don’t Overindulge
Getting healthy is going to call for a lifestyle change. Smoking, drinking and other excesses will need to be severely limited. If you are smoking and drinking everyday, seek a way to cut back to every other day. If your health is important, then it’s the least that you can do. You can overindulge on meals too. Try not to eat to the point of bursting, but only enough to sate you. Eventually, these things will become new habits. A commitment like fitness takes sacrifice.

There you have it. It may be a hard and you may get frustrated. Don’t kill yourself over a slip up here and there. Just rest assured that by following these measures, you’ll be having more fun than pain in no time!

Getting over Her: Suggestions for a Break-Up

Everyone has reasons when they get out of a bad relationship. Some people found themselves in a rut. Some needed to get away from a destructive partner. Whatever the reason, here are things that you can do to counter the blues as you start a new chapter.

Take a Deep Breath
It’s scary being single again. Accept this fact and you’ll find it easier to move on. But be careful not to move too fast. Don’t just accept it and fall right back into another relationship, or Heaven forbid, fall back into the previous relationship! Take a breather. Think about what was right and what was wrong with your previous relationship. Avoid the tell-tale signs and be smarter the next time around.

Get Out of the House!
That means out of the house and into more activities. Join a kickball league. If you’re not the active type, join a book club or even an on-line gaming community. Take the steps, big or small, and get interacting with other people. The most important thing is to not put a purpose on meeting people until you are ready to date. Just have fun!

Get Out…There!
Now that you’ve gotten out of the house, it’s time to try something new. The best way to get out of your shell is to achieve something big. Get out of your comfort zone and really live! Try skydiving, or fly fishing. Simply think of something that sounds fun. If you make an excuse immediately after, that’s the thing that you should do! Once you realize the only one stopping yourself from being happy is you, there’s nothing that you can’t achieve!

The most important thing is to understand that the relationship was not your entire life. You still have a job or friends or family or hobbies. Life goes on and often times, for the better. So keep busy, keep happy!

Use Online Sportsbooks to Place Your Bets

Since the Olympic games began, people have been placing wagers on the outcome of sporting events. In Ancient Roman times, people may have wagered a herd of sheep in order to get favorable odds on a gladiator. As the sporting industry continued to evolve, so did the gambling associated with the contests. Mercenary enforcers gave way to mafia bookies as time passed. For a while, some cultures frowned upon gambling, further forcing sports fans to turn to under-the-table organizations in order to make a buck or two betting on a favorite or a dark horse.

Today, gambling carries much less of a stigma for many individuals. More people view it as a source of entertainment. Part of this shift may be due to online sportsbooks and gambling institutions. You don’t have to go down a dark alley, knock on a door, and wait for a small window to open up with a squinty eyed fellow glaring through it in order to place a bet. You don’t have to wonder about how much a bookie wrote down on his notepad when you placed your bet.

Instead, you can log in to sportsbooks and place your bet. Companies that offer odds on sporting events also provide you with a variety of information to help you make informed decisions. After all, if you’re going to put your hard-earned money on the line, you should be as informed as possible. By reviewing statistics for players and listening to pre-season commentators, you can make an educated guess on who will win. You’ll also want to keep tabs on injured players. When a team loses a star player due to injury, it can decrease the team’s chances of winning. Of course, this could be an opportunity if you like to bet on the underdog. You may get a better spread when this happens.
